Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was raised in Barcelona. Her diverse style of music has earned her the label of "atypical pop star". In the age of 13, she fell the love of Spanish folk music, and she studied musicology at Catalonia College of Music. She was also a guest at weddings and music bars. It reinvented flamenco, combining it with pop music and hip-hop. The two singles "Malamente", and "Pienso en tu Mira" were a hit among the Spanish public and garnered widespread critical acclaim. Recognized as the winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year and listed in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the rise of Rosalia into the international scene of music. Rosalia's 2019 albums "Con Altura" (13) and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi" (12-13) were a pioneer in urban music and achieved worldwide popularity. Her third album, Motomami (2022) she gave reggaeton a fresh approach, deviating slightly from the original flamenco sound. The album featured singles "La Fama"" and "Saoko" The album became a huge success worldwide and was named the top-rated album of the year by Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten top one singles from her home country in the span of her entire career. This is the most she's ever had an artist from the country. Rosalia has earned 11 Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards 4 MTV Europe Music Awards, three UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing the sound of mainstream music with her flamenco-inspired pop"[18]. She was also the first Spanish-singing artist to be nominated for the Grammys for Best New Artist.
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Her birthplace was in a family with no artistic heritage and is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella who runs a small family business that is specialized in metalwork. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). The couple split in 2019. Her older sister Pilar Vila is born in 1989 was her stylist. Rosalia was interested in performing arts from her early years. She discovered the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She began her musical training at the Taller de Musics [es]. She completed a 6 year program in the academy. She first began classes at the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Also, she worked on her own, singing at weddings, music bars, and other occasions. She was offered "a less than 80 euros or in exchange for a meal". At that time, Rosalia met many underground Spanish performers who later would be successful, including La Zowi, Yung Beef, Kaydy Cain, Hinds and Maria Escarmiento.
